Day 24: Junk, Stuff, and a Beer

Today we met up with Big Me, Maeve, and Marcie to head over to Governor’s Island. An island converted into a giant park and garden.

We had to take a ride on the ferry which did a number on Marcie’s hair.

Johnny was her favorite cousin most of the time. He was just silly enough for her to laugh at most of his jokes

Lunch was had at a food cart there on the island. It was Caribbean food. James got some fantastic Jerk Chicken (so like him), fried plantains and sweet potatoes. I realized to late to take pictures but I got some fantastic goat curry, collards, and fried plantains (It smelled too good sorry Jason).

After lunch we went to an amazing playground where adults are not allowed. It’s a Junk playground movement where kids can make anything that they want out of the supplies given (mostly donated) without any parents leading them in the play. Jude was in heaven!

Since the adults were not allowed we went somewhere we were.

Quite tasty too!
Jude created a “cannon house” by the time we came back.

Then we left through the gardens to find the tallest slide in New York City.

It was pretty fantastically tall.
Our kids being the country kids created a bit of a phenomenon when they went sans shoes and slid down in their socks.

We were treated to a fantastic dinner of Sushi by John and Maeve. Thank you so much for hosting us! We had a blast!

  2. I'll try to convince Andy to try and recreate once we're home again - it was delicious!
