Day 7: Fare thee well Western United States

Miles traveled today: 323

Total Miles: 1323

Today the boys woke up early to go fishing with Grandpa. They moved out early and Mom stayed behind to tear down camp. I succeeded with only a flesh wound.

There were no fish biting, and Jude was freezing, but he came back so happy!
We exited through the east side of Yellowstone and took HWY 14/16 to Buffalo with a stop in Cody, WY. On the way out we saw these bison kicking and stomping at each other and the cars. It was pretty unsettling to see them be so aggressive and wild after seeing the mother nursing her baby.

We passed by the expanse of Yellowstone lake, so blue and wide!

When we came down off the hill we stopped in Cody, WY. First we stopped in at Annie’s Soda Saloon across the street from Buffalo Bill’s Irma Hotel.

Then we stopped in at Buffalo Bill’s Center of the West.  We showed up at 3 pm and were given a discount entry for late arrival which was really nice because we got maybe a smidgen of this museum. One ticket is good for 2 days and you’ll use every bit of it!

Then it was time for our climb over the Bighorn Mountains. It was gorgeous up there and it was interesting to see the geological markers change over the trip. We stopped somewhere along the way and found a bunch of cicadas.

We pulled into the Buffalo KOA sometime after 9 pm and made camp and now have crashed into bed. It has been a long fantastic day!
